 Official Rules

NO PURCHASE, PAYMENT OR SUBSCRIPTION NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE DOES NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.

Sweepstakes may only be entered in or from the 50 United States and the District of Columbia and entries originating from any other jurisdiction are not eligible for entry. This Sweepstakes is governed exclusively by the laws of the United States. You are not authorized to participate in the Sweepstakes if you are not located within the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. 

1. How to Enter. To enter the “Vacations For Life Sweepstakes” (“Sweepstakes”), you must register on www.vacationsforlife-rd.com (the “Site”) between 12:01 am Eastern Time (“ET”) on September 8, 2008 and 11:59 pm ET on September 7, 2009 by including your name, address, email and phone number (optional) on the registration form. All eligible entrants will receive five (5) automatic Sweepstakes entries upon registration. After registration, you can earn one (1) additional Sweepstakes entry for each day you visit the Site during the Sweepstakes Period.  The following sets forth some of the additional ways you can earn Sweepstakes entries:

A.        Mini-Contest Entries: Entrants can earn five (5) additional Sweepstakes entries for each Welcome Home mini-contest of the week (“Mini-contest”) that they enter during the Sweepstakes Period (maximum fifty-two (52) mini-Contests throughout Sweepstakes Period). 

B.        E-mail Referral Program Entries: After you have registered for the Site, you can complete the refer a friend form and submit up to ten (10) emails per form, with a maximum of one hundred email addresses who must be eligible to enter the Sweepstakes. Each person that you refer will receive an email notifying them about the Sweepstakes. You may only refer persons with whom you have an existing relationship. For each referral of a friend with a valid email address, you will be given one (1) additional Sweepstakes entry for up to a total of one hundred (100) additional Sweepstakes entries throughout the Sweepstakes Period.  

C.        Welcome Home Membership Entries: 

(i)Entrants who sign up for a free thirty day “Welcome Home” trial membership at www.welcomehome-rd.com will receive five (5) additional Sweepstakes entries upon registration.  

(ii)At the end of the thirty day free Trial Membership, entrants who sign up for the Welcome Home paid annual membership for $59.95 will receive fifty (50) additional entries. 

(iii)Entrants who become Welcome Home members can also receive one (1) additional entry for each dollar spent per week up to a maximum of one hundred dollars (100) in the Welcome Home Online Shopping Mall.

D.        Bonus Contest Entries: Entrants who enter the Ad Bonus Contests (“Bonus Contests”), up to a maximum of fifty (50) entries throughout Sweepstakes Period, will earn five (5) additional entries per Bonus Contest.  Entrants who do not wish to participate in Bonus Contests can earn additional entries, up to a maximum of fifty (50) entries, up to five per week,  by logging in www.welcome-home-rd.com/alternativetoWHBonusContest  and clicking on the “I do not want to play the Bonus Contest, but I want to earn five more entries.”

E.         Mini-Survey of the Week Entries: Entrants who complete the Mini-Survey of the Week will earn five (5) additional entries per week during the Sweepstakes Period. 

F.         Weekly Sponsor Visit Entries: Entrants may earn one (1) entry per week during the Sweepstakes Period, with their first visit to each of the Premier Sponsors’ Websites. Premier Sponsors are accessed on www.welcome-home-rd.com/PremierSponsor 

G. Without participating in the Mini-Contest: Entrants who do not participate in the Mini-contest may get 5 entries weekly by visiting www.welcome-home-rd.com/alternativetoweeklycontest, enter the user name and password, and follow the screen prompts shown to earn 5 more entries.

H. Without Free Trial of Welcome Home: Entrants who do not try a free Welcome Home Membership may get 5 entries by visiting www.welcome-home-rd.com/alternativetoWHtrialmembership, enter the user name and password, and follow the screen prompts shown to earn 5 entries.

I. Without Purchase of Welcome Home Membership: All entrants who do not purchase a Welcome Home annual membership for $59.95 may get 50 entries by visiting www.welcome-home-rd.com/alternativetoWHmembership, enter the user name and password, and follow the screen prompts shown to earn 50 entries. 

J. Without purchase in the Welcome Home Online Shopping Mall: All entrants who do not make purchases in the Welcome Home Online Shopping Mall may get up to 100 entries per week by visiting www.welcome-home-rd.com/alternativetoWHShoppingMall, enter the user name and password, and follow the screen prompts shown to earn 100 entries per week.  

All entrants must have a valid email address. You may not enter this Sweepstakes more than the stated number of times permitted in these Official Rules. No automated entry devices and/or programs permitted. All entries become the sole and exclusive property of the Sponsor and receipt of entries will not be acknowledged or returned. Delivery of prizes requires a street address (no P.O. Boxes). Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, stolen, incomplete, invalid, unintelligible, misdirected, postage-due, technically corrupted or garbled entries or mail, which will be disqualified, or for problems of any kind whether mechanical, human or electronic. Only fully completed entry forms are eligible. Proof of submission will not be deemed to be proof of receipt by Sponsor.

2. Start/End Dates. Sweepstakes begins at12:01 am ET on September 8, 2008 and ends at 11:59 pm ET on September 7, 2009 (“Sweepstakes Period”). The Sweepstakes Period will consist of twelve (12) months (each a “Sweepstakes Month”). 

3. Eligibility. Participation open only to legal residents of the fifty United States or the District of Columbia, who are 18 or older as of date of entry. Void outside of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, and where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. Employees, officers and directors of Reader’s Digest Association (“Sponsor”), Sonesta Resort Orlando (“Promotional Partner”), American Travel and Marketing Group (“Promotional Partner”), and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, partners, dealers, advertising and promotion agencies, manufacturers or distributors of sweepstakes materials and their immediate families (parents, children, siblings, spouse) or members of the same household (whether related or not) of such employees/officers/directors are not eligible to enter. Sweepstakes may only be entered in or from the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, and entries originating from any other jurisdiction are not eligible for entry. You are not authorized to participate in the Sweepstakes if you are not located within the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

4. Monthly Random Drawing/Odds. Two (2) Winners (each a “Monthly Winner”) will be selected in a random drawing from all eligible entries received each Sweepstakes Month (each a “Monthly Drawing”). Each Monthly Drawing will take place approximately one week following the end of that Sweepstakes Month. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received for that Monthly Drawing. Non-winning entries will carry over to subsequent Sweepstakes Months. Drawing will be conducted by an independent organization. Twenty-four (24) Monthly Winners will be selected throughout the Sweepstakes Period. By entering the Sweepstakes, entrants fully and unconditionally agree to be bound by these rules and the decisions of the judges, which will be final and binding in all matters relating to the Sweepstakes.

5. Grand Prize Competition.  All Monthly Winners will be invited to Sonesta Resort Orlando or a comparable venue on or about January 2010  to participate in the Grand Prize competition (“Competition”). Date subject to change at Sponsor’s discretion. All Monthly Winners must participate in the Competition or Monthly Prize will be forfeited. Upon prize forfeiture, no compensation will be given. During the Competition, Monthly Winners will be asked to participate in certain activities for which they may receive points. The instructions and details of the Competition will be provided to the participating Monthly Winners prior to the start of the Competition. The participating Monthly Winners who place in the top ten of each designated activity will receive points in accordance with Sponsor’s point system, which will be posted at the Competition. The participating Monthly Winner who accumulates the most points by the end of the Competition Period will be the Grand Prize Winner, subject to confirmation. The six (6) Monthly Winners who accumulate the next highest scores will be named the First Prize winners, subject to confirmation. 

Participating Monthly Winners understand and agree that Sponsor or Sponsor’s representative will have the right but not the obligation to photograph, record and/or videotape (collectively, the “Recordings”) the Competition, at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Participating Monthly Winners further understand and agree that Sponsor will own all right, title and interest in and to any such Recordings, and that Sponsor will have the right, but not the obligation, to use and display, or authorize others to use or display the Recordings in any manner whatsoever, including but not limited to commercial, promotional and/or marketing purposes, in any media now known or hereafter invented (including, but not limited to, any and all television media). Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries. Approximate odds of winning 1 in 4,650,000.

6. Prizes. (a) Monthly Prizes: Each Monthly Winner will receive a one (1) week stay in a vacation home at a Sonesta Resort Orlando or comparable, at ATMG’s discretion. (Specific resort to be determined by Sponsor based on availability, in its sole discretion). Vacation home will be a three (3) bedroom/two (2) bathroom town home that can accommodate up to 6 people and includes access to all resort amenities Prize also includes round trip economy class airfare for Winner and one (1) guest from an airport closest to Winner’s home to an Orlando area airport, transfers to and from airport to resort for two (2) people, and VIP Universal 2-Day Tickets for six (6) people (tickets are subject to Universal Theme Parks’ terms and conditions). (Note: Although the Sonesta Resort Orlando and Universal tickets are for six (6) people, Sponsor is providing airfare and transportation for only two (2) people; Sponsor is not responsible for the airfare or transportation of anyone other than winner and one (1) guest). One week trip must be taken after participation in the Competition and before February 15, 2011.   Each Monthly Winner will also receive a four-night stay in Orlando in or about January 2010 to compete in the Competition. If Monthly Winner cannot participate in Competition prize will be forfeited and the prize will be awarded to an alternate. The Total Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of each Monthly Prize is $6,828.

(b) First Prizes: Six (6) First Prize Winners will receive an annual one-week stay in a vacation home at a Sonesta Resort Orlando or comparable, at ATMG’s discretion, for life (up to thirty (30) years). (One (1) week per year for First Prize Winner’s life (up to thirty (30) years)). First Prize Winners will decide at the beginning of each year which week winner intends to take the vacation. Prize is for First Prize Winner’s life (not to exceed 30 years), is not transferable and cannot be passed on to First Prize Winner’s heirs, administrators, executors, administrators and/or assigns. First Prize Winner is responsible for all other expenses, including airfare and transportation to and from airports of departure/arrival and transfers from airport to resort. All other expenses including travel to and from the Resort are at the expense of the winner. The ARV of each week’s stay is approximately $2,500. The Total ARV of each First Prize is $75,000.

(c) Grand Prize: One (1) Grand prize winner will receive an annual twenty-week stay in a vacation home at Sonesta Resort Orlando, or comparable, at ATMG’s discretion, for life (up to thirty (30) years). (Twenty (20) weeks per year for Grand Prize Winner’s life (up to thirty (30) years)). The vacation home will be a three (3) bedroom/two (2) bathroom town home that can accommodate up to 6 people and includes access to all resort amenities. Grand Prize Winner will decide at the beginning of each year which weeks winner intends to take the vacation. Prize is for Grand Prize Winner’s life (not to exceed 30 years), is not transferable and cannot be passed on to Grand Prize Winner’s heirs, administrators, executors, administrators and/or assigns.  Grand Prize winner will also receive one (1) pass for one year’s admission into the Universal Theme Parks. Pass is subject to Universal Theme Parks’ terms and conditions. Grand Prize Winner is responsible for all other expenses, including airfare and transportation to and from airports of departure/arrival and transfers from airport to resort. The Total ARV of the Grand Prize is $1,500,560.

Total ARV of all prizes combined: $2,114,432

Prizes are non-transferable. No substitutions or cash redemptions. In the case of unavailability of any prize, Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. ARV of travel related prizes may vary based on airfare fluctuations and point of departure. Any difference in stated ARV and actual value of prize will not be awarded. Travel is subject to availability and blackout dates and restrictions will apply. Prize Winner's travel companion (hereinafter, "Guest") must be at least 18 years of age at the time of travel. In the event Guest is deemed a minor under the jurisdiction of his/her state of residence, Guest must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No additional travel expenses or any other aspects of the travel related prizes will be awarded should Guest's parent or legal guardian be required to accompany Guest. Sponsor maintains no control over the personnel, equipment, or operation of any air carrier, train operator, ground transportation carrier, hotel, or other person or entity furnishing service, products, or accommodations as a part of the prize provided under this Sweepstakes and shall not be liable for any injury, damage, loss, expense, accident, delay, cancellation, diversions or substitution, or any act or omission, inconvenience, or other irregularity that may be caused. Sponsor shall not be liable for any loss or damage to baggage. Prize Winners and Guests must travel on the same itinerary. Prize Winners and Guests will be solely responsible for obtaining valid identification relating to acceptance and use of the travel prize packages and the associated costs for these requirements. Travel prize packages are subject to any and all restrictions instituted by the Department of Defense and/or Department of Homeland Security, as required at time of travel. All Prize Winners are solely responsible for all federal, state and local taxes on prize. All costs and expenses not expressly specified in these Official Rules are the sole responsibility of the Prize Winners. All Prize Winners must supply Sponsor with their social security numbers for tax purposes. All prizes will be awarded provided they are properly claimed.

7. Notification.   Monthly Winners will be notified by over night courier and/or email and will be required to sign and return, where legal, an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release within ten (10) days of prize notification. If any winner is considered a minor in his/her jurisdiction of residence, Liability/Publicity Release must be signed by his/her parent or legal guardian and such prize will be delivered to minor’s parent/legal guardian and awarded in the name of parent/legal guardian. If any winner cannot be contacted within five (5) calendar days of first notification attempt, if any prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, if any winner rejects his/her prize or in the event of noncompliance with these Sweepstakes rules and requirements, such prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected from all remaining eligible entries. Upon prize forfeiture, no compensation will be given. Limit one Monthly Prize per person or household. 

8. Conditions. Participation in Sweepstakes and acceptance of prize constitutes each winner’s permission for Sponsor to use his/her name, address (city and state), likeness, photograph, picture, portrait, voice, biographical information and/or any statements made by each winner regarding the Sweepstakes or Sponsor for advertising and promotional purposes without notice or additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. By participating, entrants, winners, and Guests, agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor, its Promotional Partners, and their respective advertising and promotion agencies and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, partners, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers and directors (collectively, “Released Parties”), from any and all liability, for loss, harm, damage, injury, cost or expense whatsoever including without limitation, property damage, personal injury and/or death which may occur in connection with, preparation for, travel to, or participation in Sweepstakes, or possession, acceptance and/or use or misuse of prize or participation in any Sweepstakes-related activity and for any claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy and merchandise delivery. Sponsor is not responsible if Sweepstakes cannot take place or if any prize cannot be awarded due to travel cancellations, delays or interruptions due to acts of God, acts of war, natural disasters, weather or acts of terrorism. Entrants who do not comply with these Official Rules, or attempt to interfere with this Sweepstakes in any way shall be disqualified. There is no purchase or sales presentation required to participate. A purchase does not increase odds of winning.  

9. Additional Terms. In case of dispute as to the identity of any entrant, entry will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at time of entry. “Authorized Account Holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) responsible for assigning email addresses or the domain associated with the submitted email address. Any potential winner may be requested to provide Sponsor with proof that such winner is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the winning entry. Any other attempted form of entry is prohibited; no automatic, programmed; robotic or similar means of entry are permitted. The Released Parties are not responsible for technical, hardware, software, telephone or other communications malfunctions, errors or failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, web site, Internet, or ISP availability, unauthorized human intervention, traffic congestion, incomplete or inaccurate capture of entry information (regardless of cause) or failed, incomplete, garbled, jumbled or delayed computer transmissions which may limit one’s ability to enter the Sweepstakes, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer relating to or resulting from participating in this Sweepstakes or downloading any materials in this Sweepstakes. 

Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, extend or suspend this Sweepstakes should (in its sole discretion) virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Sweepstakes. In such case, Sponsor may select the winners from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds, in its sole discretion, to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Sweepstakes or web site. Sponsor may prohibit an entrant from participating in the Sweepstakes or winning a prize if, in its sole discretion, it determines that said entrant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Sweepstakes by cheating, hacking, deception, or other unfair playing practices (including the use of automated quick entry programs) or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrants or Sponsor representatives.

CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE SWEEPSTAKES MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, THE SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

10. Use of Data. Sponsor and American Travel and Marketing Group (“ATMG”) will be collecting personal data about entrants online, in accordance with their respective privacy policies. Please review the Sponsor and ATMG’s privacy policies at ReadersDigest.com and WelcomeHome-rd.com. By participating in the Sweepstakes, entrants hereby agree to Sponsor and ATMG’s collection and usage of their personal information and acknowledge that they have read and accepted Sponsor and ATMG’s respective privacy policies.
